Chapter 10 -- Here

We all heard Austin scream and abruptly, Aries tugged on my arm and whispered, “Come with me, Regal! Austin’s in pain!” Aries and I blasted out of the room and saw Austin’s body knelt on the ground. “Austin, what happened?” I couldn’t have said more. “He’s gone…” He mumbled through his hands. “What do you mean?” Aries asked calmly. “Nate disappeared.” Lucas answered for him. “What happened here?” I asked again while Lucas took me in his arms and I caught his eyes and locked them with mine.
Lucas stared blankly into my eyes and sighed, “I got into a fight with him and then, Austin pulled me over as I was about to kill him for what he said. When, Austin was done with it, he turned to help Nate but then and there, Nate vanished and all that was left of him was his necklace.
“Austin, it’ll be okay…” Aries comforted Austin. Nothing stopped Austin from crying some more. Cobalt, Reilly, Crimson and Cascade blasted out the door. Reilly stared blank at Nate’s necklace and rushed to Austin’s other side. Cascade gasped in worry and Crimson shook her head warily. Cobalt asked, “Lucas, what happened?” I responded quicker than Lucas could’ve, “Nate disappeared into thin air…” Cobalt’s eyes widened and his eyebrow rose. “Don’t push your luck, Cobalt… He’s gone for good…” I heard Austin snarl. Cobalt rolled his eyes as Austin’s head snapped up and he scoffed, “Live on with my life without Nate?” Cobalt shrugged, “You can try…” “Maybe…” Austin considered it. Aries kissed Austin and that made him feel better. Austin grieved a bit and Reilly hugged him. Crimson showed off a smile. The search for Nate was put to a halt and the next few months brought Austin to smile again…

LUCAS ARGYLE

As months pass, people change… Take Regal and I for example; I broke up with Clementin months ago. What matters most is what happens between us. Past is presented into great ways. Austin and Aries are standing up so strong that nothing could break them. Chancler will be vacationing in Michigan for 2 weeks so he’ll be happy.
“Lucas, what’s on your mind?” Aries said one night at Regal’s place. “Life…” I replied. “Please don’t go there, Aries…” Austin mumbled. In a few months, everything will change as planned by Ms. Know-it-all, Crimson Greyson. That night as I ran home, something halted me a block away from home. A voice murmured into my ear, “Lucas…” “Who are you?” I said looking for the voice. “You had to ask…” It whispered as something choked me. “Why… am…. THIS ISN’T RIGHT!” it’s whisper turned into a growl and that something let go of me. I hyperventilated, took a deep breath and half-ran, “Home.” I breathed. I opened the door and in the living room were Reilly, Cobalt, Crimson and Cascade. “Lucas!” Cascade shrieked. I took an exasperated look at Aviatri and waved in reply.
“Why are you guys here?” I just had to ask. “Can’t we visit without alert anymore?” Reilly answered in reply. “Of course they can…” Aviatri said while stating her glare on me. It worked until my head nodded in fear. Aviatri smirked. “Lucas, what’s that?” Crimson mumbled as she eyed my right arm. I glanced at the cut and lied, “A scratch.” “Well… We gotta get going. Sorry…” Cascade hesitantly said while pulling everyone she brought with her through the door… “Cass! I have to tell --” Crimson barely said. The cut darkened and Hunter sighed, "Lucas, do you, truly, know what that is?" I nodded, "No..." Aviatri sighed from across the room. What is she up to now?

Chapter 9 -- Enough

Brace yourself, Argyle, I wanted to add. When we walked in, everyone’s eyes were on Lucas. Regal tried to resist looking at Lucas but she couldn’t stop herself. Lucas had to hurt himself. Outside, he asked so much about Regal. Confusing… “Are you okay, Lucas?” Regal mumbled. “Fine, I guess… how about you?” Lucas answered with the same amount of awkwardness. It made me smirk. Regal saw it and she gestured for me to come to her. “Yes?” I said as I took a seat next to her. “Stay out of it, Ryder!” Regal hissed while she clutched the collar of my shirt.
“I’ll back off… Just a head’s up, he’s desperate…” I answered her facial expression. Regal let go, closed her eyes and sighed. “Lucas, are you okay?” I said to break the silence. “Aviatri should really see me… Clementin should be confused and… Hunter is probably laughing his head off.. So I’m alright… I guess.” Lucas answered. I heard Austin’s faint chuckle and I forced something into his stomach. I grinned. “I’m sorry everyone for giving you all shock…” Lucas sighed. “It’s all right, Luke, we all needed a shock…” Cobalt spoke. “Cobalt’s right, Lucas… but you didn’t have to hurt yourself…” Reilly added.
“Are they married yet?” I heard Lucas ask Cascade quietly. “Closer than close, Luke…” Cascade answered and then giggled. “We have to go everyone… Sorry, Regal… Lucas.” Sierra rushed as she pulled her sisters out of the door. “Regal, you deserve an apology. I’m sorry… for everything.” Lucas surrendered to the apology in him. I rolled my eyes. Regal didn’t reply but she did go beside Lucas and kissed his cheek. Blech… How could she forgive him after all the years I had to protect her? I don’t want to hurt Lucas as much as he did to himself. “I’m sorry, as well, Luke.” Regal sounded like she confessed the words. How can she be saying sorry to him? That apology should be mine. “I think everyone should go home and rest after this day…” Reilly saved me before I began that fight.
. . .

In the morning, I felt weak but Austin came and propped me up, “Lucas called, he said his wounds have healed and we’re all going to Regal’s house.” Great… I managed to rush to Regal’s. “Hey Nate.” Regal managed to shriek. I waved hi sarcastically. I heard a ring of a bell and in a second, Lucas came in and on his feet too. Regal rushed to hug Lucas and I almost threw up. “Can I talk to you outside?” I manage to ask Lucas. “Sure.” He replied and led me through the door. “What is this about?” Lucas questioned. “It’s about how Regal can forgive you after these years.” I growled. “Why is it your concern?” Lucas replied in the same amount of ‘growl’. “You’ve broken… your promise way too much!” I screamed enough that the ‘mind-reader’ could hear.
Austin burst out the door and saw the tension in our faces. “You owe me at least one sorry for how much you’ve hurt me.” I said while Austin and I saw the confused expression on Lucas’ face turn into rage… Seconds passed as Lucas eyed me and 3, 2, 1… He pounced on my suddenly weak body, I fell to the ground and the last thing I saw was Lucas’ face screaming, you should’ve never done that!

AUSTIN RYDER

I saw Lucas pounce on my brother’s body and a snap shuddered in my ears. Nate shrieked in pain and his body stuttering on the ground. Another snap and I noticed Lucas broke Nate’s arm and leg.
You should’ve never! Lucas’ thought pinged in my ears and snapped my limit. My mind was set on Lucas and it pinned him to the tree in the front yard. I took him by his shoulders and murmured, “Lucas Daniel Argyle! How could you?! My brother was vulnerable these past few years and you have the nerve to hurt him harder than you did by leaving…” I almost stuttered those words. What do you mean? Lucas asked in the lowest his “mind” voice could be.
“Nate was hurt even more than Regal. Actually, hurt because of Regal…” I paused to see Lucas’ eyes widen, “Yes, he was hurt. The first three months you were gone, he broke a rib and leg. Next 8 months, he broke his arm… Nate tried his hardest to be strong enough to be a shoulder to cry on and to deal with his best friend being gone…
“He protected Regal harder than anyone. Sometimes I checked on him and one glance showed me that he always had burst into tears. Sometimes, I couldn’t even sleep because of his tears and there, in the other room, Nate laid awake trembling.” I said and let go of Lucas. Oh God, I’m sorry, Austin… Lucas’ mind surrendered. I took a glance back at Nate and then flickered my eyes back to Lucas. “Never again, Argyle…” I murmured.
I took a breath and then turned my attention to Nate, who still was lying on the grass. As I looked to turn back, Nate disappeared and his shark tooth necklace made plink! As it touched the ground, “No, no, no!” I had to have shouted. After my discovery, everything blurred.

Chapter 8 -- Listen

Had I gone insane? What did I just do? Why did I injure half my body for some stupid reason… again? Do I love Regal as much as she does to me? What had happened, 3 years and 4 months ago had come back to haunt me… Regal’s collapse had driven me insane. I felt bruises on my arms, legs, head and especially my face. I also felt 5 figures above me… “He looks bad…” A voice sighed. Nate? “He looks broken…” Another voice sighed. Aries? “Torn is a better word…” Another voice sighed. Austin? “Lucas is hurt for God’s sake!” A frustrated voice cried. That was Regal…
“You’re awake, aren’t you lover boy? Face the music and open your eyes…” Austin whispered so low I could only hear. No way, Austin… “Fine.” He replied lower this time. I hear crying… “Regal. Nate’s inside… Aries is out here with us.” Austin muttered, “They can’t even hear me….” Am I looking bad? “Pretty much. Terrain, Sierra and Auburn will be checking you in about 10 minutes.” I really don’t want that… “Or do you want to go to the emergency room?” Austin suggested. I’d rather not..
“Austin, how’s Luke?” Aries was concerned. “Better, not good but… better.” Austin lied. “I feel just fine…” I croaked. My eyes blinked open and almost everyone rushed outside. I sat up… almost fell but sat up. I looked worse than I had expected. “Lucas!” Nate and Chancler cried. “Hey.” I answered. My voice was still obsolete. “Lucas, lie down, idiot!” Aries shrieked. “It’s okay, everyone, I feel fine..” I replied as Nate and Chancler started their magnetic hold on me. “Let go of me!” I exclaimed. They backed off. I felt hands squeeze mine. “You’re not fine.. Look at the fear in your eyes…” Auburn said as she and Sierra compressed my hand. Ouch! That really does scare me. “Ha!” Terrain and Austin laughed at my thought. “So…” I choked. “So what? You injured half your body…” Aries was still concerned. “Where’s Regal?” I questioned. “Inside, trying to figure out why you just did that…” Sierra said while she compressed my arm with ice. Auburn, then, pressed heat on it and sighed, “Luckily, it’s just a broken right arm but you can’t walk for 4-6 weeks…” “Great…” I mumbled. “How’s the other arm?” Aries asked me. “I guess bruised… Not broken but bruised.” I answered her question with slight pain. How am I supposed to explain this to Aviatri, Hunter and Clementin? “We already did,” Terrain confessed, “Clementin and Aviatri are worried… Hunter wasn’t so surprised.”
My know-it-all brother thought it was alright… “We’re done with you, Luke.” Sierra said with a smile on her face. “Chancler, Nate, can you guys help me put him on the wheelchair?” Terrain asked and they nodded. Great… I’m on a wheelchair for a month… “Don’t be whiny, Lucas…” Austin muttered. I rolled my eyes and sighed, “Where are you taking me now?” “Back in the house…” Aries said as she wheeled me through the grass and up the stairs. “I don’t want to face everyone… yet.” I replied in whisper. “Don’t worry… I cleared it up for you already…” Austin said as he opened the door… Brace yourself, Argyle, Nate’s eyes said.

Chapter 7 -- Worry

There’s a lot to worry about nowadays… One, Lucas hasn’t contacted any of us for 3 years straight. Two, Reilly’s got powers and three, today I’m 15. Everyone’s been on my back the last 3 years. Austin, Nate, Aries and Chancler are like my legal guardians now.
They keep on telling me to forget about Lucas and live life as it is. What if I can’t forget Lucas and I am alive? I’m so glad its summer or my mind would blow… Tuesday was the day everyone (and I mean everyone) comes and has a total reunion.
Ding, dong! Ding, dong! “Regal!” Reilly demanded for me to go down. “Alright! Give me a minute!” I answered as I finished putting on the necklace and trotted down the stairs. When I reached the living room, everyone was already settled. Nate, Austin and Chancler were sitting the couch. Aries was on the closest chair next to Austin (typical). Cobalt, Reilly and Crimson were on the other couch. Cascade was on the arm of the couch and she smiled as she pulled up a chair next to her (for me).
I took an exasperated look at everyone, took my seat and sighed, “Hello.” “Hey Regal!” Cascade answered for everyone. She always spoke first. “Happy birthday!” Cascade added. “Don’t overwhelm her, Cass…” Crimson reminded. Thank you, I thought. Austin grinned. Told you not to do that today! My mind burst. Austin rolled his eyes and grinned some more. Nate elbowed Austin. “Thanks.” I mouthed over to Nate. He winked in reply.
“Every year…” Chancler sighed. I turned to glare at him. Chancler backed off to smile at himself. “Jerk.” Aries murmured. “Everyone let’s not have Regal’s birthday to fight over…” Cobalt’s always looking out for me. Since I am Reilly’s little sister, I get some of the big brother out of him. Crimson nudged Cobalt in reminder. “I’m so sorry Regal… We have to go. There’s something else we have to attend today.” Cascade spoke for her sister and brother.
“Happy birthday.” Cobalt and Crimson mumbled as Cascade pulled them through the door. I waved goodbye as the door gently closed. “Let’s go to the park!” Aries exclaimed. “Reilly…” I asked. She nodded, waved goodbye and ran upstairs. What is she up to? I thought while looking at Austin. He shrugged, don’t know. Aries led everyone to the park and we neared park grounds. “Who’s that?” Austin and Chancler stopped us from another step. “It looks like…” Nate’s whisper stopped in thought. “Lucas…” Aries answered in whisper.
Lucas?! Austin’s eyes widened with that thought. Nate knew exactly why Austin gestured like that and came up to hold me over-protectively. The figure walked up closer to us but everyone was stilled by his eyes. Emerald green, “It can’t be…” Aries murmured. I took another look at the ‘Lucas’- like figure. “Well, it is me, Aries.” The voice was Lucas. The hair: more brown than blonde but still kind of an even divide. “No more black hair, I see…” Austin said in reply as Nate let go of me and his hold to look at Lucas. “Hey Regal…” Lucas said as he smiled a little. “Stay away, Luke.” Nate said being over-protective again. “Happy birthday…” Lucas whispered. I rolled my eyes, “Don’t even try…” “He doesn’t stand a chance.” Austin answered. “You are here, why?” Chancler snarled. “Regal…” Lucas replied with his eyes locked on mine.
I peered into the eyes with sudden shock. I sucked in air and blew out with tremendous force on Lucas’ body. “Regal!” He screamed. “I did it this time.” I answered. Then, a girl appeared to help Lucas up. They looked into each other’s eyes and they kissed. A gasp came out of Nate, Chancler and Aries’ mouths and Austin looked at Lucas with that scary glare as Lucas came up with that girl by his side. A growl came from Nate with shock and Lucas’ eyes worried on mine. I thought of everything that was in that one kiss. For me, everything grew black and I fell to the ground.

I felt that a blanket covered me and I was home in my room. I kept my eyes shut to listen to 3 figures hovering over me. “What happened?” I heard the voice was Cobalt’s. “Lucas is back.” Aries’ voice replied. “With…” Austin hinted. “Wow… Ouch.” Cobalt answered as I felt his eyes deafening on me. “I know… Then, she just collapsed and we brought her here.” Aries said while looking out the window and sighed, “I also feel bad for Lucas, he been looking up every 5 minutes waiting ‘til she’s awake.” “Why?” Cobalt questioned. I felt Austin and Aries shrug. I opened my eyes carefully and sat up slowly. “Regal…” Cobalt sighed. “I’m sorry I did that…” I muttered. “Why did you?” Aries asked. “That girl was…” I stopped at the answer while Austin and Aries’ eyes widened with shock. “Really?!” Austin gasped. I nodded.
Cobalt nodded and his eyes spoke for him, I’m going to tell them. He jolted out of the door and downstairs. “Lucas is really in the yard?” I asked getting out my bed as I neared the window sill. Aries sighed, “I’d rather not Regal… Give him some space outside.” She sat by window and Austin patted her shoulder, “He’ll be looking up soon… Just nod.” “Is Nate downstairs?” I asked Austin. “Everyone is… Even Terrain, Sierra and Auburn.” Aries answered for Austin. I should go down…, I thought. Austin was probably stuck on my mind as he sprinted to the door and opened it for me. “Come with us, Aries.” I suggested. “Hold on…” Austin stopped her from nodding at Lucas. Aries shrugged. Austin held the door for all of us. As we walked downstairs, I saw Nate and Chancler waiting anxiously for me. “Cool it guys.” Aries whispered. Chancler rolled his eyes. Everyone else was stuck on Austin as he shrugged at all of them. Then, their gaze was on me. Terrain gestured for me to come to her by patting that free seat next to her. “Regal, are you all right?” Crimson’s calming voice asked. “A little…” I answered and sighed. “Can I tell you all something? I think Cobalt knows this story already though…” Terrain said as Cobalt’s eyes widened.
Then Terrain’s story began, “I was 14 and I had a friend named Erik… He was decent and I loved him. One day, I had the nerve to tell him. Erik wasn’t so shocked and he said that he loved me also as much as I did. Bad news was he also told me, he was moving. Just 2 years ago, Erik came back with his brothers and their… girlfriends. I collapsed all the same as Regal,” Terrain took a breath and started again, “and when I heard about your collapse, Regal,” She looked at me and said, “I consider you as my heroine because… well, you made me remember that I am stronger than I really am.”
Everyone’s jaw had already dropped except Cobalt and I stood strong. After a while, Sierra spoke up, “You mean Erik Randall?!” Terrain nodded in devastation. Austin was near the window the second Terrain spoke. I saw Austin’s body rock back and forth as he peered out of the window. “What’s wrong, Austin?” Aries asked with her eyes worried.
“Lucas.” Austin choked. “What happened?” I questioned with worry. “Don’t!” Austin cried as he looked at Lucas from the window. We all heard a thug. Austin bolted out of the door. Nate, Chancler, Aries and I followed him. We finally got out of the door and we saw Lucas unconscious on the ground and I saw bruises all over his body…

Chapter 6 -- Go

“Please.” I whispered. Aries nodded her head disapprovingly at me. Just tell Regal about the move, Lucas. She’ll understand. You should be the one who makes it clear to her why your behavior is ‘off’, Aries’ words haunted me. “Tell her now!” Aries hissed. “Tell me what?” Regal asked while her hazel eyes deafening on mine, waiting for the answer making me look in to them longer, never turning away. “LUCAS!” The hiss made its way to a shriek. “Alright! I’m moving to Nevada. Aviatri and Hunter think its best to be with our parents…” I surrendered as Aries smirked and got to Regal before she fell. I couldn’t look at the broken expression on Regal’s face. It was almost as bad as when I had that look on my face.
“Nevada…” Regal sighed. Right now, I’ve got more of the reason to scream than anything else. I took a deep breath and then Austin whispered, “Take care of Regal before you do that, Luke.” I rolled my eyes and then sighed.
Before I knew it, Nate, Chancler and Regal were gone. “Regal…” Aries shrugged as she looked into Austin’s eyes. “Bye, Lucas…” Aries said as she vanished into the horizon.
Take care of Regal for me, I wanted to add. “Oh, we will take care of everything and everyone. I’m gonna keep an eye out for you in the sky, making rain.” Austin playfully said as he patted my shoulder. “Thanks.” I replied and then sighed. “More likely, you won’t be okay… Nate will miss you; I bet he’s in denial.” Austin pondered. I nodded unwillingly. Austin waved goodbye then ran off. Okay, now I should scream now. “Lucas…” A voice murmured from the distance. I noticed the fragile voice was Reilly.
“Lucas, you can’t go…” Reilly sighed then spoke again, “You have to understand that no one can mend Regal’s heart unless you come back.” She put her hand on my shoulder. “Reilly, Cobalt, I will come back but just we all need a breather.” I replied. “We understand but we will miss you…” Reilly said right before Cobalt said something. Then, Reilly looked into Cobalt’s eyes in worry. He nodded, “I’ll miss you, Luke…” “I’ll need to go now. Aviatri and Hunter are already in Nevada.” Reilly and Cobalt nodded and then both of them came close to hug me. Reilly let go earlier than I thought but Cobalt squeezed me and let go. Before I took off into the skies, Reilly kissed me on the cheek and smiled. They waved and made their way back.
I flew all the way to my house back in Nevada. I landed a few blocks away from the house and took a stroll. Along the path, I saw a girl struggling with a stack of papers. The girl walked slowly so I could recognize her features: short caramel hair and she wore glasses. After that gaze at her features, she slipped. Paper flew everywhere and she collapsed to ground but not unconscious. “Are you okay?” I asked. “Huh? Yeah, I’m fine but the papers are not…” She said as she turned her head to look at me. She was stilled by my eyes and she made me smile when I looked into the warm brown eyes. “I’m Lucas.” I said while helping her up. “I’m Clementin…” Clementin shyly replied. I finished stacking her things and said, “Do you mind if I carry these for you?” “Sure… I guess. Follow me.” Clementin replied as she took my free hand and gently held it.
Her gaze met mine and we laughed. Clementin led me to her house which was right in front of mine. We stood in front of the door for a long time just staring into her eyes. A few minutes passed, I smiled and she leaned forward to kiss my cheek, quick and to the point…. It felt kind of good. Just that kiss would remind me of Regal and everything I left behind. Decision’s been made for me to stay here. I walked home and watched Clementin get into her house over my shoulder, she smiled back at me.
“Welcome home, Lucas.” Aviatri said as she opened the door, new home and a friend. Starting all over will have to be in the worst part of my consciousness and the good part of it’s happy to know that I have a place to start…

Chapter 5 -- Healing

Sometimes he treated me different and yet he mostly treated me like I was the only girl for him... As much as I did miss Lucas, Austin lived up to what Lucas was. Most of time, I thought about Lucas. “Don't rely on him…” Crimson's words forced me to believe every time I had thought about him. "Regal!" I heard a voice shout, it was obviously Nate. "Regal, Austin is looking everywhere for you!" He added that if I don't call him now, he'd kill Nate. I tried to calm him down as I dialed Austin's number. "Why'd you want me to call?" I said somewhat annoyed. "Lucas is back.” He replied softly. I hung up the phone and then ran back. Hard to believe, I was at the park.
Lucas is back. What do I say to him about Austin? Before I hung up the phone, Austin added that he was at my house. Great… home, he place where I didn’t want to talk with Lucas. As I neared my house, I heard Lucas murmuring, “Regal. His back was turned away from me. “How’d you know it was me?” I asked. “I felt the wind blow with your every step…” Lucas replied unwillingly glum. I’d totally forgotten about my powers these last three months… “Austin and I are…” I stopped. “You’re dating. I know you’re acting like it...” Lucas sighed. He started murmuring, “Why?”
Lucas confused me. “Lucas, are you okay?” I asked with my hand on his shoulder. Lucas shrugged it off. As he shrugged my hand off, I noticed he bent down his head and cried for less than a minute… Then, Lucas shot himself straight into the air and crashed back down onto the ground. “Regal……” Something prevented Lucas to saying something and then, “Crap! How do I say this?” He paused and took a deep breath and said, “Regal, look at me…” As Lucas said those words, he turned around his face to mine and took off his hat.
“Black… hair?” I breathed. “Yeah, I don’t look ‘Lucas’ enough for you. My heart is not being taken care of…” Lucas answered while he tried to reveal his emerald eyes behind the darkness, “I’m sorry I left, it’s just that…” I stopped him from talking and shook my head, “I know the reason and Nate told me. I also know why I changed but not why… you changed.”
Suddenly, I watched as Lucas sat down on the grass with his face already buried in his hands. “Are you crying again?” I asked as I sat myself next to him. “What’s it to you?” Lucas answered under all the tears. “What’s wrong?” I said with my hand on my shoulder, awaiting his answer… “Everything’s wrong!” Lucas screamed, “Nothing is right anymore!” “Lucas, calm down. Why is everything wrong?” I asked with a voice not as steady as usual.
“I feel like I’m not…” Lucas got cut off by Austin’s sudden appearance. “I’m not worth anything!” He screamed as he blasted off into the sky. “What’s his problem?” Austin asked. “AUSTIN!” I screamed.

Ding, dong! Ding, dong! “I’m glad you invited me over, Regal,” Lucas said, “Did you want to talk to me?” He asked. I nodded. “I’m going to break up with Austin.” I murmured. “Don’t push me into that, Regal. I might get…” I stopped him. “The only one will get hurt is Austin…” I said before I giggled. Thanks, Lucas might have thought.
The day after I broke up with Austin, Nate called and didn’t sound so pleasant, “Regal! Come down to the park right now! Something’s happening!” I ran to the park to see what was up… Lucas was there and Austin was about to leave. Austin didn’t look like I was there and he left. “Nate, what happened here?” I questioned as I looked at the messed-up park. “Austin said, ‘Look how many times you hurt her! Now you have the nerve to come back? Stay away from Regal!’ Then, Lucas went insane.” Nate answered with a worried look in his eyes. We both looked at the broken expression on Lucas’ face. Nate and I were worried about him.
Lucas glanced at me and then he dug his face into his hands. I felt Lucas was trembling. I sat near Lucas and sighed, “Lucas…” Lucas didn’t answer; all he did was take a deep breath and hugged me. “Regal…” He breathed and let go of me.
“My behavior is off…” I heard him mutter under his breath. I guessed that already, I thought of saying. “I can’t imagine what you’re feeling right now…” Nate sighed. “You will imagine it someday… I feel it might happen.” Lucas answered while he let his head fall into his hands. I felt his trembling as he reached out for my hand and gently held it. “Oh no!” Nate whispered. “What’s wrong?” Lucas and I asked with both our faces bewildered. Nate started to hyperventilate as I carried myself to Nate’s stance. “There’s a possibility that I am attaining a new power or someone was feeding me the future…” He murmured under his breath.
“It’s going to be okay, Nate…” Lucas calmed Nate down with his free hand with the other hand still on mine. We were all actually sitting down at this point… Lucas abruptly let go of my hand and dropped his head into both hands. After a while, Lucas and Nate walked me home and said we’d come back tomorrow and catch up more.

We exchanged hellos and then I heard Lucas and Nate growl as 3 figures appeared. I recognized the figure in front was Austin and the two in the back were to people unknown to me but at the same time familiar.
“Chancler…” Nate growled. “How’s life, Nate?” Chancler chuckled under his breath. They neared us and I caught a better view of the girl and Chancler. He had sand-colored hair and the girl had almond brown hair. The way Austin looked at her and she looked at him, Austin felt something more for her than me.
“We can stand here all day, Austin, and not get anything resolved or you can apologize and I can introduce myself.” The girl suggested. Austin rolled his eyes and said, “I’m sorry for everything. A guy’s mind isn’t always set on one thing…” His head was hanging in whatever his definition of shame was. “I’m Aries…” Aries said as she looked into everyone’s eyes and mine for the longest time.
“You brought Aries here, why?” Nate asked. “I wanted you to meet her. If there’s awkwardness, just tell me.” Austin answered. I saw Aries whisper something to Austin and he nodded, “Guys, why don’t we talk a bit, it should be a reunion for all of us.” All the guys even Lucas tagged along but Lucas looked at me over his shoulder, worried.
“So, Regal… That’s not your real hair, right?” Aries asked tilting her head in wonder. “You have powers?” I asked. “I’m able to turn lies into truth.” Aries replied, “Isn’t it a mouthful?” I nodded. “The guys know already. Is that really your color of hair?” She added. “No.” I said self-consciously while touching it. “I knew it. Do you mind?” Aries questioned as she gestured to my hair. “Sure.” I replied confused. She touched my hair and in an instant, my hair was back to its original dark brown and my eyes were hazel again. Aries winked at my expression.
The guys came back in a triangle with Lucas in front. When he saw me, Lucas stopped the other 3 and glared at Aries. “Oops…” She muttered. “Aries!” Chancler hissed. Aries stuck out her tongue. “Aries can’t help it if it’s not true…” Austin pondered. “I know that but what about Lucas?” Chancler replied eyeing Lucas. “Let’s see what the outcome is…” Austin answered in a regretful tone.
Nate rolled his eyes. Suddenly, Lucas dropped to the ground. The drop vibrated the ground. “Aries, shut up!” Lucas snarled covering his ears with his trembling hands. “Listen for one more time?” Aries suggested. “Only one!” Lucas whispered as he squeezed his eyes shut. Aries nodded and muttered words no one could understand. The volume of her voice was so low but Lucas could hear it from far away.
“I’m done.” Aries whispered in a comforting way. Lucas sighed and reclined back to lie on the grass. “Chancler, how do you know Lucas, Nate and Austin?” I wondered. “Actually, Regal, Lucas is one of my cousins and I met Nate and Austin through him. When we were 7, I met Austin who was with Lucas at our parents’ reunion and Nate came late…” Chancler chuckled at the thought. Nate covered his ears tight and I laughed along with Chancler.
Still petrified, Aries murmured again and Lucas replied. “What do you want me to do?!” Aries whispered. “Please.” Lucas whispered.

Chapter 4 -- Wrong

I just got off the phone with Lucas, he sounded like he was hyperventilating at the end of the call. Regal is so fine with Lucas gone. I can’t believe I steered her into my house… Regal has never been in my house before. “Nice place, Nate.” She said while I walked her into the deserted house. My mom was with hers and my brother, Austin, seemed to be nowhere. “Why don’t I show you my room?” I asked, but it was a wrong question at that point. “Sure.” Regal murmured as we walked up the stairs. I opened my door and Regal gasped in shock. “Is something wrong?” I questioned as I hung my jacket on the hook near my door. “No, it’s just so... clean.” Regal’s tone made me laugh. “What, you thought my room would be messy?” “No, no! The room is just not you.” Regal muttered with embarrassment.
She settled on my bed, scanning through a book on my nightstand. “Where is your brother?” Regal asked with her head still in that book. “Austin is out with his friends.” I replied emotion-less because I really don’t care about him. A knock on my door startled Regal as I reached out for the door. No surprise, it was my brother, Austin. “How are you, brother?” Austin said as he almost took out my bedroom door. “This is Regal.” I introduced her grinning. “Hello, Austin.” Regal said shyly. “Nathaniel Ryder, she’s much more beautiful than I expected.” Austin said, looking at her and he was feeling something and I knew it… I punched him in the stomach. I was so glad that Regal didn’t see that. “Isn’t that your phone ringing, Nate?” Regal asked me.
I heard the phone ring and I answered it, “Hello?” “Nate, its Lucas, look outside the window…” I looked out the window bewildered and he gestured for me to come down. “Give me a few minutes. Why don’t you show Regal your room?” I asked Austin. He nodded as he leaded Regal through the door. I saw in Regal’s face that she was worried about me. “Don’t worry.” I whispered to her. I put on my jacket and raced down the stairs. I was out the door in a mille-second. I noticed that Lucas was wearing a beanie. “Hey.” Lucas croaked. “Hi Lucas, are you okay?” I asked as Lucas sat down on the curb with his face in his hands. “No. Actually, I’m not.” He mumbled.
When I heard ‘not’, I froze and thought about everything that would lead to this. “I shouldn’t have let Austin in my room, right?” I asked nervously awaiting his answer. “It depends…” Lucas stuttered. Lucas clutched his chest (where his heart is) with pain on his face. “Are you okay?” I croaked with worry. “Damage control... Regal isn’t treating my heart well.” He answered with pain, “Austin negotiates…well.” “No! He’s really –?!” I shuddered. Lucas sank to the ground and he hit his head hard. Lucas’ eyes were closed as he hyperventilated. I tried to telekinesis his head up but I struggled while doing it. “Don’t strain yourself, Nate.” Lucas mumbled.
Lucas struggled but he sat up all the same. He patted me on the shoulder and I sighed, “I’m sorry that Regal ever came to my house…” “Don’t blame yourself. It was your ignorant twin brother...” Lucas chuckled and so I joined him. “I gotta go now, Nate. I will come back in a few months to check on everything here. I’ll miss you, bro…” Lucas sighed. I hugged him but it was quicker than usual. I waved goodbye to my friend as he took to the skies. I headed for the front door. Regal and Austin were in the living room now. I zoomed straight to the kitchen to get water and back to the living room to see what’s going on. “Do you mind if I date your brother?” Regal asked looking at my shocked expression.
I had drank some of the water and coughed out the remains. “I guess… If you want to, you can.” I surrendered my answer. Just don’t come crying to me if you get hurt, I wanted to add. I rolled my eyes as I thought about wanting to hurt my own brother. “I think you need some air.” Regal said as her hand made its way to my shoulder but I slouched away just before it hit. “Uh-huh.” I murmured on my way out. I finally got outside and slammed the door shut. Deep breaths, I thought, deep breaths…

Chapter 3 -- Again

What the heck? What was I thinking leaving Regal to hurt again? I broke that promise too many times. I’m practically giving Nate my Regal. I guess Nate will love her for real… now. I surely am running away, to find my brother and confront him just once this year. I closed my eyes a few seconds into my run because I knew if I opened my eyes I knew I’d go back to that house, the house where all the ones I loved were confused and hurt because of my depart. I can’t go back… yet. I’ve changed too much and they wouldn’t recognize me.
It didn’t really occur to me that I wasn’t the ‘same’ Lucas. As I passed by a mirrored wall, I stopped and stared into the alter ego in the mirrored image. I had black hair, same emerald eyes and the thing to soak in was that I became new.
I wasn’t the old Lucas anymore. I was terrified at myself. I closed my eyes again but I noticed that I just blinked. After a few moments, I stopped at my brother’s 2-story house. I was still feeling paranoia when I felt tranquility. I heard a little girl’s voice shout, “Lucas! Lucas!” The girlish cries were coming from my brother’s adopted daughter, Lila. “I’ll get Daddy!” She yelled. I heard my brother’s feet as they walked down the stairs. As I walked inside the house, I closed the door as a loud life-giving laugh filled the room. “You gave her half your heart, didn’t you?” He said trying not to burst into utter laughter, “You’re not such an idiot, Lucas.” My brother said toned down. “Why do I feel like an idiot? My bad side looks completely terrifying.” I said trying to get the black hair out of my eyes. “I remember when I first gave my heart to a girl. I couldn’t believe what I looked like… a total freak.” Huh, you look like a freak now, too, I thought.
“She probably loves you, Lucas. I think you look worse than I ever did.” Hunter chuckled. “What if I don’t know if I love her?” I murmured. “Well, go back and find out…” Hunter gestured his hand to the door. “Will they remember me?” I said pointing out all my changes. Another chuckle and then, “Wait, before I answer that... Let me get the phone.” Hunter said as the phone rang and he answered, “Hello?”
One bewildered look at me and I knew the mystery caller was for me. “Me?” I whispered. Hunter nodded as I sprang across the room and held the phone in my shivering right hand. “Hello?” I asked as I broke a teardrop sweat. “Hey, it’s Nate. You should be worried about Regal. She changed, big time…” Nate said. It’s not like she’s the only one, I wanted to add. He hung up on me and I was so glad. “I need to go somewhere, Hunter.” I said. “Come back soon and you can live here with me and Lila if you want.” Hunter answered. “Thanks so much.” I mouthed. I waved goodbye as I raced out of the door. I have to see Nate, I thought. That was my destination as I ran back to my best friend…

Chapter 2 -- Park It

Monday was very interesting and exciting. “Regal, Nathaniel’s here!” Reilly shouted while I was about to go down the stairs anyway. “Reilly, call me Nate, Nathaniel’s a bit long.” He said while closing the door for the both of them. “Nate! What are you doing here?” I asked suspiciously. “I came here to talk to you and Lucas called me and said he’d be here,” he waited for the Ding, dong! , “be here now.” “Hey, Regal… Nate.” “Hey guys, give me 5 minutes and we’ll go to the park and talk…” I said while I raced upstairs and got dressed. I wasn’t so much in a rush, even I can get dressed within 5 minutes; my black jacket, lavender graphic tee, roll-up royal purple skinny jeans and my black Chuck Taylor’s. As I walked down the stairs, Nathaniel and Lucas looked at me and they both smiled.
“Reilly, we’re going to the park!” I shouted as Reilly nodded from across the room. “Did you really have to tell your sister where we’re going?” Nate asked. “Yes, Nate… Why, are we doing something else than talking at the park?” I looked into his ice-blue eyes seriously as he pointed me out to Luke, “We’re going to see my friends nearby and talk about their powers.” Nate? Do you know them? I gestured. He nodded and holding on to my hand as Lucas held on to my other hand slightly tighter. “Speed it up, temper-mental?” Nate asked Luke, “Hold her tight, over-protective.” You guys? My nervous eyes said. They both smiled, with Nathaniel’s ice-blue eyes and Lucas’ emerald eyes looking into my hazel eyes, I thought I was about to faint but instead I smiled and held both their hands gently but tighter. Whoosh! In a few seconds, we ended up on the road of a 3-story house outside our city. “We’re at 3-story Suburbia, right?” I asked while they let go of my hands, gently. “How do you know about it?” Nathaniel replied shocked as he looked to Lucas who was also shocked. My eyes exclaimed, Internet… duh!
“Smart girl.” A girl’s voice said. “Nathaniel! Lucas! You made it on time for once!” The same voice softly shouted. “Cascade, this is Regal.” Luke introduced me to Cascade, “A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Regal. I’ve heard a lot about you…” She said while winking at Lucas. “I’m not an only child, you know. Cobalt and Crimson get down here!” Cascade shouted. She was beautiful; better yet Nathaniel and Lucas were, too. Cascade had light brown hair wrapped in a smart ponytail. Cobalt looked like he had super-strength because of his broad shoulders and his hair was a shade darker than his sister. Crimson looked like Cascade but with a shade lighter of hair. Cobalt asked, “Cassie? What’s the reason for our presence down here,” Cobalt looked around and finally saw Luke and Nate, “Luke and… Nate! Who’s the girl, sis?” “Regal,” Cascade said flicking his head for acting so inappropriate, “you remember the ‘Lucas’ story behind her?” Cobalt nodded and nudged Crimson to say something.
“Hi, I’m Crimson. Obviously, Cobalt, Cascade and I are triplets. We have the same power as Lucas and Nate but with a twist. We all have different personalities that come out in our powers.” Crimson was smarter than Cobalt and Cascade. “I can mind-read and I have the power to fly.” Cascade added. Cobalt added, “I have super-strength and I can run faster than your boys there.” “Interesting…” I replied. “Does she have powers too?” Crimson questioned Nathaniel. “No.” He whispered, “Does she seem like she does?” Crimson nodded after his shocked whisper.
“Lucas, Regal seems like a nice girl, she sure is beautiful.” Cascade murmured. I glanced over at Cassie talking to Lucas but when I saw him, his emerald eyes were on me the whole time. “LUCAS!” Cassie shouted quietly. “She is beautiful, I know,” He said still a little zoned out, “she’s so different.” “Different? I don’t think so, Luke, she’s not like us though.” Cascade whispered, “If Cobalt found out she didn’t have power, I don’t know what he’ll do…” She seemed terrified of what’ll happen. “Nate, does Regal have powers?” Cobalt asked. “Regal doesn’t have powers, why do you ask?” After what Nathaniel said, I saw Cobalt’s eyes turn on me; black eyes weren’t as terrifying as his.
“Why did you bring Regal here?!” He said turning on Lucas and not me. “I wanted you to meet her…” Lucas said almost terrified of Cobalt’s next response. “She can’t be here, Lucas! You know I hate being around her kind.” Lucas was thrown on the ground and he knocked his head hard. As soon as I saw the angry expression on Cobalt and the hurt expression on Lucas’ hidden face, I ran out and sat on the lawn, crying. I heard through the door from Cobalt, Crimson don’t get out there!
“Make me!” She shouted as she slammed the door and went to sit with me on the soft grass. “Are you ready to talk or do you want to listen?” Crimson asked gently stroking my hair and comforting me. I nodded, I just want to listen, my eyes cried. “Okay then, Lucas is hurt but I think that just hurt you more, Cobalt has been through a lot. He really didn’t mean to hurt you or Lucas…” she paused for a moment and tried to calm me down a little more, “He experienced what Lucas is going through now. He fell in love with a girl, Reilly. Reilly didn’t show up the next date after he told her about his powers. The next day, he saw her with another guy and her eyes met his sorrowful eyes and that was the last time he was ever going to deal with your ‘kind’.” After her explanation, I stood up and exclaimed, “Reilly is my older sister!” Oh my, her eyes gestured. “We have to tell Cobalt.” I whispered. “Don’t tell him, Regal. He might hurt you next.” She said nervously. “Lucas promised me that he’d never hurt me again but I’m the one causing him all the pain, Nathaniel and Cobalt hurt him already and I don’t think I can bear to see him hurt any other time.”
“I understand, be brave when you’re in Cobalt’s way.” Crimson said while her gentle hand on my shoulder. “I am brave.” I said while storming into the house. “Cobalt, my sister is Reilly, I’m sorry it didn’t work but I remember when she was 12, she told me about a guy exactly like you and she said he had powers. Of course, I was so young to believe her but when I found out about Lucas’ powers, I could believe anything.” After my words of wisdom, I immediately sat down beside Cobalt and held him tight. “Who was the guy she was with at school?” He murmured with his hand on his head. “You never knew that was her best friend?” Cascade added. Cobalt’s eyes looked like he was saying, Idiot!
“Crimson, how’s Lucas?” I said nervously. “He’s suffering some head bruises but he’ll be fine and his memory is still in tact.” She winked and smiled. “Crimson, get Regal.” He whispered while he stood up with Cascade supporting his back. “I’m sorry I didn’t keep my promise, I hurt you again, didn’t I?” He whispered back already hugging me and stroking my hair. “I hurt you again, if it weren’t for me, you’d never get hurt.” I signaled the ‘don’t speak yet’ sign and held him tighter. I told Cobalt to wear something nice because I had a surprise in store for him. Ding, dong! Ding, dong! “I’ll get it!” Cobalt yelled. “Remember me?” Reilly said as she smiled. “Reilly?” He asked. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t ready for the ‘super-power’ thing, I was afraid that you’d get hurt…” Before Reilly could finish, Cobalt’s lips were already on my sister’s. “Cobalt waited 3 years for this?” Nate asked. “Such a cute couple!” Crimson and Cascade shrieked happily.
“Cobalt and Reilly are so out of touch from us right now,” Nate said as he glanced at me, “COBALT!” Cobalt shook his head as he stopped saying sorry to my sister and me. “Regal, how did you find him?” Reilly said stilled on his eyes. “Lucas and Nate helped.” I said as I turned and winked to Nathaniel who was on the couch by Crimson and I sat by where Lucas was recovering, thinking and I knew he was hurting on the inside. “Did something happen to Lucas?” Reilly asked. “He got hurt by Cobalt a few minutes ago…” I answered while stroking Lucas’ cheek with my thumb. Reilly wasn’t shocked and it seemed like she knew the reason. “Just promise you’ll never hurt anyone even if it’s a real reason.” She whispered to Cobalt and he nodded while letting go of Reilly and sitting on the couch by Nate. I couldn’t let go of Luke’s gentle and yet hurt face. I felt his hand raise and place itself on top of mine. “Listen.” He whispered while he placed my hand on his heart. “Is it beating fast?” He asked quietly. “A little fast paced but that’s okay.” I replied still whispering. I took back my hand and it went back on his sorrowful face. “I hope you’re not in any pain.” I said stilled by his emerald eyes on mine. “I’m in pain, the good kind.” He said as he slowly sat up.
“Lucas! You’re finally off the ground.” Cascade said, “They called and they’re coming over.” Cascade always was in a good mood. Reilly left a few minutes ago because she had other plans... “Who are they?” I asked. “Terrain, Auburn and Sierra are one of the most powerful families of our kind. They’re triplets like us but Terrain can get a little too over her temper.” Cobalt answered. “I assume they have some kind of power to do with the earth?” I replied. “Correct, Auburn can control fire, speed and strength. Sierra has control over water, she can fly and she can levitate objects. Terrain has power over all elements, strength and she can mind-read.” Crimson added.
Lucas was already healed, up and pacing nervously. “Do they hurt humans?” He asked breathing heavily. “No, of course not, Sierra has a human boyfriend and Terrain and Auburn ignore them but I think Regal can be an exception to that ‘ignoring’ side of them.” Nathaniel said waiting by the window… “How old are they?” I questioned Crimson, “15 like Cobalt, Cascade and I.”
Brace yourself, Regal, they’re at the door, Cobalt’s eyes whispered. “Cobalt, Crimson, Cascade, Lucas, Nathaniel, what a pleasure to see you again.” Auburn said as she greeted all of them but me. “Who’s the girl?” she asked looking straight at me. “Auburn, this is Regal.” Lucas said from across the room. “What a pleasure to be in your presence. I bet Lucas really has feelings for you.” Auburn said as she smiled with her perfectly white teeth peeking out of her mouth. “He sure does.” Nate added looking at Lucas with his happy face. “My sisters are always fashionably late, for everything. Leave it to me to be always early.” She said while pacing by the door until the arrival of her sisters. Ding, dong! Ding, dong!
Welcome back, Cascade sarcastically sighed opening the doors in a blink of the eye. “Cobalt, Crimson… Cascade, Sierra’s idea was good for once.” Terrain’s words were flawless. I noticed that she closed her eyes and opened them with piercing blue eyes looking at me. “She’s human.” Her words seemed like they pierced Lucas and Nate’s ears. “Yes, she is what’s the problem, Terrain?” Nate answered what seemed to him a question. Nothing came out of her eyes as she rolled them.
“Lucas, is she your weakness?” Sierra said as she giggled without sound. “No, she gives me strength…” Lucas answered as he took my hand and gently held it. “That’s very interesting, Lucas.” Terrain exclaimed and raced toward me. As she neared me, I let go of Lucas’ hand and stood up strong. “You know, humans are so suffocating…” Terrain said as she raised her hand and put her palm in front of my face and a gust of air hardly pushing me back on the wall. Smack! The only thing I saw was Terrain’s light-blue eyes deafening on my hurt body until I shut my eyes.
Within 2 minutes, I opened my eyes, my sight still a little blurry. I felt my hand stroke across a soft, teary face. I immediately noticed that Lucas was the soft, teary face that was holding my hand. The sound of Lucas’ concerned voice made my sight completely clear up. “Regal, this time you got hurt because of me.” I heard Lucas say. You? It was me again, I thought. “What did you do to her, Terrain?” Auburn asked sounding very concerned. “Watch this and you’ll understand.” I heard her say and she took a droplet bottle, squeezed it on her palm and somehow got the liquid in my mouth. Terrain was already standing up and she circled my body and blew mist all around me. I felt a sudden jolt in my body and I knew that I know possessed power as strong as hers.
“Regal!” Everyone but Terrain shouted as I spanned the ceiling in my own amazement. I saw Terrain smile and I grounded myself. “Now even you can’t suffocate, Regal.” Terrain said while hugging me and then Nate came out from nowhere saying, “Now you can control air, pretty weird, you having powers and everything…” “No, she’s still Regal.” Lucas added as he kissed me, “Yes, she’s still my Regal.”
“I was wondering if she’d get hurt if she harnessed power as strong as mine. I guess she’s a little bit stronger than me.” Terrain confessed as she winked at her sisters. “How did you give her your power?” Sierra asked. “That’s a total secret.” Terrain said as she winked at me knowing I knew the answer. “Where’d Lucas go?” I asked looking for him. “He ran out the door before I took a power-nap and I think he left this for you…” Nate answered half-awake. The note said;

My Regal,
I’m sorry for my early departure. I have to take care of something and I promise I will be back before you know it. I hope Nate will take care of you while I’m gone. Take good care of the half of my heart. Make sure you use those powers well. Don’t get tempted on using them to find me. You might be confused on why I left and I’m sorry but I left for a good reason… Trust me, I know you do.

I love you,
Lucas

Chapter 1 -- Day

November 25, the day of my life’s turbulence. Sometimes, people are perfect but yet they don’t keep that perfection when they make mistakes. My dad passed away when I was 6. I don’t know how, why and what caused it because my mom just told me I wouldn’t see him for a while, a long while. Thank God, Mom was stronger than Reilly, my older sister. She cried for weeks and on my shoulder!
November 25 wasn’t the day my dad died or when something life-threatening happened. That Monday was the first day of Winter break and that same day I saw him, Lucas…
Back in the 5th grade, he told me his secret, he has extraordinary powers which he used for good, pranks or whatever tempted him. Lucas was my best friend until he changed his “image”, two months before graduation. After his “image alteration”, he only told me important things like he has speed, flight and strength. Then a week later, he told me that he’d be home-schooled.
“Home-schooled?” I asked. “Hard to explain, need to be away from other kids right now. I’m going through something…” “Other kids? What about me, I’m your best friend? What is this something anyway?” I replied tearing up. “Don’t cry, Regal, please. I’ll call you whenever I can and yes, you’re my best and only friend who trusted and believed in me. Actually, I’ve put you in my heart and mind, never wanting to give up in front of you but right now, for now, I am. I’m sorry.” By Lucas saying that I felt him putting me into his heart and mind, I realized that he loves me.
I stopped the crying and before he turned away,
“Lucas, ditto.” I kissed him on the cheek. Right then, his whole body raced toward the sky as he smiled.
The part about it is that we know we won’t see each other in a long time… That was 5th grade, and now we’re in 7th, I hope he’s kept me in his heart. When he glanced over at me sitting by the curb, he reached for his pocket and dialed a number on his phone. Ring! Ring! Ring! I answered and when he saw me answer, he hung up his phone and fell to the ground. Thug! I ran to where Lucas fell and dropped on my knees beside him, put my hand on his and squeezed it tight.
“Regal?” He said still a little zoned out. “Lucas!” I replied hugging him.
Then I felt his arms on my back hugging me tighter. His head rushed to my shoulder, crying but tears didn’t come out. “Luke, what’s wrong?” I questioned, digging his head out from my shoulder. “You’ve changed a lot and I have a,” he paused for a short while, thinking of what to say, “I’ve changed a lot like I’m getting more power, knowledge and I have,” he paused again and looked for something in his backpack, “something for you.” In the palm of his hand was a hand-made necklace, “I made it for you that next day after our last meeting in 5th grade. Everywhere I went I had it with me, even when I slept I have it on my nightstand.” Carefully, Lucas put the necklace on me. “Beautiful.” I whispered taking the pendant for a closer look at the wonderful artistry.
I looked at the pendant for a short while but when his emerald eyes met my hazel ones, he smiled, “Do you want to go out with me tonight?” “Sure, at around 5:30?” I replied shyly, he nodded and added that I had to wear jeans and or leggings. Time goes by fast when I pick out clothes to wear. Ding, dong! Ding, dong! My older sister, Reilly, answered the door, even she hasn’t seen him in a long while. “Is Regal home?” “Lucas! What a surprise finding you here after all these years… Let me get Regal.” She gestured me to get downstairs and kindly let the door close with Luke already inside. “Regal, Lucas is dressed in dark navy jeans, polo button-down shirt with under tee, where are you going?” “Out with him, Mom said it was okay. Bye.” I explained. Don’t forget your curfew, her eyes told me. You’re 15, give me a break, sis! I thought. “Regal, you look great.” He exclaimed. “So do you, where are we going anyway?” I replied. We kept on walking out further from my house, “Secret.” Lucas said while gesturing me through the park. He knew I hated him keeping things from me. A few minutes up a hill and he stopped, “We’re here.”
The view was spectacular but who knew Lucas would know where this place was. “The next day after I met you that last day in 5th grade I came hear and thought about life.” “What specifically about life?” I asked. “What do you think love is?” I guess he seriously wanted my answer, with his emerald eyes looking into mine… “Love is when you look into that person’s eyes and feel a difference in your heart. There’s no real definition for love, the definition depends on that person.” “That’s very interesting and yet true.” Lucas’ words faded out on the word ‘true’. Before I knew it, he was looking and smiling at me with his emerald-hazel eyes again, “Do you know the person closest to my heart?” I asked. Who? His eyes gestured. “That person is you.” I answered, leaning my head on his shoulder. “Regal, ditto.” He said and then his lips touched mine, for the first time. In that moment, he closed his eyes and knew that was something was wrong and put his hands on my shoulders, shivery.
“Regal…” he murmured, “I sense that someone’s coming for you…” For me, I thought. At that moment, I knew who was coming, “That someone is coming for us. Not only me,” I paused and took a small breath, “but for you, too. His name is Nathaniel, remember him?” Lucas nodded as his eyes turned to me protectively. Nathaniel was my friend, and also my enemy. He has a huge protective side for me; our moms are best friends so we see each other a lot. Nathaniel doesn’t like me hanging out with Lucas and he knows about Lucas’ powers. “He can’t find us here; I think he’s going to my house…” I whispered. “I’m not bringing you home yet. It’s only been 15 min. since we got here.” He answered. “You used your super-speed, didn’t you?” I questioned crossing my arms. “Yeah, I wanted this night to last.” He said with his eyes fluttering. Hehehehehe, very funny, I thought sarcastically, “I have to get home by 10:30, it’s my curfew.” Don’t you think I know that? His eyes said. “4 hours and 45 minutes to go…” Lucas said trying not to make me angry. “Yes, okay, what else do you have planned tonight?” I asked politely. “I want to take you for a flight and I would like to compliment your outfit; black jacket, white polo, electric blue skinny jeans and black Chuck Taylor’s.” Lucas said.
“That was impressive.” A voice murmured. “Nathaniel!” I said surprised. “It’s so nice to see you, Regal.” He said sarcastically, “I’m not Nathaniel right now …” he said forcefully shoving Lucas into the big tree behind us, “So Lucas, now you know how it feels when your life’s in jeopardy!” his hand about to choke Lucas, “I didn’t mean to hurt you, just please don’t hurt Lucas!” I said tearing up, “Let go of him now!” Nathaniel let go of Lucas forcefully on the ground and sat down with me, “I’m sorry, I’m a bit over-protective. I have powers, too, super-speed so when I get too angry, I release all that super strength. I don’t like Lucas with you. He is intelligent, witty and has power stronger than me.” I dropped to my knees and picked up Lucas and held him against my chest. “I’ll never let him hurt you again.” He murmured, trying to get up. “Hurt me? What about you?” I replied tearing up. I’m fine, His hopeful eyes exclaimed.
“I’ll help you up, I guess Regal really cares ‘bout you.” Nathaniel held a hand out to Luke and really helped him up. “Are we friends?” Lucas asked while putting a hand on his shoulder. “We’re friends; I’ll do it for Regal.” Nathaniel said grinning. “I got to go, um… see you next weekend, Regal!” Nathaniel winked then raced off. “Are you ready for a flight?” Lucas asked as I nodded as he smiled picked me up and put me on his back. “Are you ready?” I asked him and he grinned… “Are you shivering?” I questioned as we were 3 minutes into our departure. “A little cold but I got you…” he said as he smiled and held me tighter, “we’re almost over the city.” I saw lights and skyscrapers up ahead, then I looked down and there was Lucas’ emerald eyes looking at me, smiling and quickly turned away from me. “Luke?” I whispered as his head turned and raised one eyebrow, “Are we going down?” He nodded. Surprisingly, we landed in the park close to my house. He sat us down on one of the old mahogany benches in the park. “Do you love me?” Lucas asked. I was shocked by his question that I turned away with a nervous face. He asked again pulling my face toward his, lifting up my chin, staring straight into my eyes and asking, “Yes or no?” His eyes were so terrified for the answer, he was about to cry… “Don’t cry, Luke, please. Let me think for a sec.” I said straight into his emerald eyes. In a shivering way, he bent his head down and murmured, “I’m an idiot.” What?! My eyes exclaimed, “I’m a freaking idiot, Regal! I asked you the stupidest question!” he stopped, fell to ground, knocked his head on the grass and murmured. “Lucas, you are not an idiot, remember to control your temper, I do love you. I thought you knew that.” I said in a comforting way.
“I didn’t know and even you know I have an uncontrollable temper.” He murmured again. I propped him up and with his head still down, I tried to raise it with one finger on his chin, it worked… “Don’t be so over-dramatic, Lucas. You know you love me.” I explained. Then, he took me in his arms and held me very close to his chest and embraced me tight, “I’m sorry. I know all those things and I shouldn’t be so temper-mental. I just never want to let you go again.” After the word ‘again’, he held me tighter. “You’re shivering again, Lucas…” I whispered. I have you, remember? His emerald eyes gestured. “That’s right.” I whispered. He let me go but still had a hand on me. “4 hours ‘til curfew, Regal…” He said as my head lied down on his shoulder. Don’t you think I know that? I thought while looking in his eyes. “That’s right…” He exclaimed and smiled. I sighed happily.
